Jessie completed her Honours Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance from Wilfrid Laurier University where she focused on chamber music, free improvisation, new music as well as solo and orchestral performance. She was fortunate to be musically coached by many very talented professors and performers. Jessie's second instrument is piano. She completed her Grade 8 Royal Conservatory Exam with honours.
She has been teaching music lessons for many years intermittently with touring and performing various styles of music. Her background in classical music has provided her with an excellent base for improvisation and playing other styles of music she loves such as folk, indie, pop and rock. She has toured and recorded with many talented bands as well as played on Canadian television and radio programs. She has performed across Canada and Europe, but is very happy to now call Hudson, Quebec home and focus primarily on teaching.
Jessie enjoys teaching all ages and abilities. She loves how new and exciting everything is to beginner students, and also enjoys working in depth on challenging pieces with more advanced students. She adapts her teaching style to the distinct goals and ability of each pupil and incorporates various styles of music with traditional repertoire. In Jessie's teaching, proper technique and posture is the foundation, but musicality, ear training and the enjoyment of music are also of equal importance. She believes strongly that learning an instrument is so important at any age because of the many skills one can learn such as discipline, coordination and confidence and of course, it's a lot of fun. Above all, she hopes to influence her students to have a great love for playing music.
Jessie is currently accepting new cello (beginner to advanced) and piano (beginner, intermediate) students. She is currently located just west of Montreal in HUdson, Quebec.
